Cross-country ski, snowshoe, and explore the live music and local microbreweries of the surrounding towns with other bold, adventurous women.
Snowshoe
Become part of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Parka as you enjoy the best winter sports in the East. We’ll explore West Virginia’s mountainous Canaan Valley via snowshoe. Glide past frozen waterfalls, ice curtains, and rivers in Blackwater Falls State Park.
Cross-country Ski
Next, spend a day learning how to cross-country ski with with over 1,200 feet of vertical gains and 60+ km of trail length. Glide through frozen landscapes and white-capped mountain vistas.
Unwind and Relax
Then, slow it down with relaxing evenings in the colorful towns of Thomas and Davis, WV as we enjoy local eateries, live music, and microbreweries. #adventurethencocktails Each night is spent in a cozy State Park lodge with views of Blackwater Gorge.

Because much of our West Virginia Winter Adventure relies upon snow for many of our activities, your Explorer Chick Adventure Guide will review the next day’s activities, departure, and meal times each evening. Some of the activities you can look forward to on your Winter Adventure are:
- Full Day cross country skiing with instruction, skis, boots, and poles included
- Full Day snowshoe in Canaan Valley Resort State Park with snowshoe rental included
- Winter hiking in Blackwater Falls State Park on trails right out the front door of your lodge to views of frozen waterfalls and Blackwater Gorge
- Reliving some of your best snow day memories on the longest sled run on the East Coast! A night of music and merriment at a local cafe in Davis, WV
- 4 days/3 nights in a State Park Lodge with views of Blackwater Gorge, Wi-Fi, indoor pool, fitness center, cozy social areas, and restaurant on site. Rooms will be shared, double occupancy
- Full Day cross country skiing with instruction, skis, boots, and poles included
- Full Day snowshoe in Canaan Valley Resort State Park with snowshoe rental included

You will receive a Travel Guide attached to your booking confirmation with all the hotel and all the information you’ll need to prepare for your epic trip!
Your adventure begins and ends at our Lodge in Blackwater Falls State Park, WV.
Day 1 – Arrival: Plan to arrive to our Lodge in Blackwater Falls State Park, WV before our 5pm Welcome Dinner. Hotel check-in begins at 4pm.
Day 4 – Departure: We will wrap up our snowy adventures around 1pm after our farewell lunch on Day 4.
Air Travel: You’ll want to fly into either Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). Your airport transfers to and from our Lodge in Blackwater Falls State Park are NOT included with your package. The estimated drive time from either airport to Blackwater Falls State Park is about 3.5 hours.
We require a minimum of 5 Explorer Chicks for this trip. Please confirm this trip is guaranteed before booking your airfare.
This winter adventure is rated moderate and focused on a variety of outdoor, winter activities. We’ll be outside every day in a variety of winter elements snowshoeing and cross-country skiing while exploring Canaan Valley. You should train your body to be outside for hours at a time bundled up and staying active. To get the most from your Adventure we recommend having a solid fitness base with training on the trails and inclines in a variety of weather conditions. Train how you play!
Please consider your ability to meet the physical demands very seriously. It is for the safety of both you and our group. All Explorer Chicks will be required to sign an Acknowledgement of Physical Demands as part of their waiver upon booking.

The area was a true, beautiful ‘winter wonderland’ that I am very glad I checked out. February 19th, 2021I had never travelled with Explorer Chick Adventure Company before. I wasn’t sure if I was fit enough but I love outdoor winter adventures so I decided to take a chance. I loved it! My “50-year old fit” was definitely good enough to have fun and participate in all the activities. The women I met were wonderful and Kim took care of every need we had. I appreciated being able to just “show up” each day, knowing Kim had reserved, booked, or packed what we needed. WV was so snowy and beautiful. I’ve told my family and friends it is an area we have to go back and visit. I have already booked my second Explorer Chick trip for May 2021 in Utah and can’t wait to have another adventure with this company!
