FAQs

How to clean pots and pans while camping?

There are several ways to clean pots and pans while camping. The easiest is to make use of the surrounding natural environment. Simply use a little creek water and sand to clean your cooking supplies. Although, as effective as this can be for uncoated cookware, we wouldn’t recommend using abrasive surfaces on coated cookware. This is because, overtime, it will scratch and wear it away. A better method is to make a simple dish soap in the wilderness. To do this, simply carry a small satchel of baking soda and couple it with a little water and some old-fashioned elbow grease.

What size pots and pans is best for family camping?

As a rule of thumb, you’ll likely want at least two individual pots or pans to cook on. For one, lunch is often accompanied by a nice hot coffee or cup of tea. There’s no time for cooking, washing, coffee brewing, and washing again – that sucks! Also, if you’re sauteing veggies and want to cook rice, a second pot is very handy for your noodles or rice. One big pot and one medium-sized pot works great. Both pots or pans should be at least 1.5l, that way nobody in your family will go hungry.

Final Thoughts

MSR manufactures a variety of different sized cookware sets, but the MSR Ceramic 2-Pot Set is what we use for our backpacking and overseas trips. The MSR Ceramic 2-Pot Set is made of very lightweight materials, yet is still durable enough to last you a very long time. The pots feel strong and have a well-designed non-stick surface, making it easy to cook and clean. Plus, they also stack conveniently inside each other, making them incredibly easy to store.

We absolutely love our MSR Ceramic 2-Pot Sets.

We’ve used them extensively through the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Parks and they’ve performed without fail while trekking and exploring these iconic destinations.
