Recap Belize: Now THAT is what I’m talking about sisters!

 

We know it’s absolutely corny, but we don’t care- Explorer Chick Adventure Co.’s first adventure to Belize was well, unBELIZEable! Since returning from Belize, our Explorer Chick family has been going thru major post-adventure withdrawal from our new family, inside jokes, fresh coconut water, butt stuff, Miss Cynthia’s cooking, the Explorer Chick Spa (vinegar bath to soothe your bug bites, anyone?), sunrise yoga, evening drum sessions, and stargazing.

We began our adventure by hiking straight into the jungles of Belize, caving and discovering Maya artifacts in the remote countryside, and climbing the second tallest structure in all of Belize- Xunantunich. Explorer Chicks boldly turned their flashlights off in the deepest, darkest part of the cave (standing next to a carved goddess and a Maya altar- NBD), and laughed out loud watching the antics of howler monkeys playing in the trees surrounding El Castillo.

From the border of Guatemala and Belize, we turned south and headed deep into Mayflower Bocawina National Park. Our Explorer Chicks climbed through dense tropical trees and ferns to the top of Antelope Falls to swim in the waterfall pools, and rappelled their way back down 250” through the waterfall! We dried off ziplining through the canopy (no towels necessary!), catching sunset as we flew through the tops of the trees.

After 2 days in the jungle, we said a teary goodbye to our forest home and headed to our tropical island paradise. We were a little sad- how could anything top the past 2 days?! GIRL- we had no idea what we were in for!

After a ‘sporty’ 60-minute boat ride jetting out to sea from Dangriga to Glover’s Reef, we saw it for the first time- our private island home. Our white tents popped into view, and we met our home away from home for the first time. The next 5 days were filled with the best food ever, snorkeling with every animal you can imagine, sunrises and sunsets to die for, morning yoga and birdwatching, and nights drinking and dancing under the stars. The island was where this incredible group of 14 new friends became family.

Leaving the island to head home was one of the hardest goodbyes- but we know that it’s just a see you later!
